Most people do not realize how great are the black sesame seeds but here are some facts on them - Why black sesame seeds? 1. Black sesame seeds are powerhouse of nutrients - fiber, iron, calcium, magnesium, vit B, and phosphorus. 2. They have also been considered as anti-cancer - they contain sesamin, a compound that protects the liver from free radicals. 3. The difference between white sesame and black? White have their hulls removed whereas black sesame have their hulls intact. 4. Fiber and unsaturated fatty acids - Due to these two, they help in digestive issues and help relieve constipation. 5. Calcium, Zinc and Magnesium - help in reducing blood pressure (magnesium-zinc) and help in osteoporosis (calcium). Ingredients - 1. Organic Black Sesame Seeds - 1 Tablespoon 2. Organic fresh or frozen strawberries or mix berries 3. Organic Vanilla Extract - 1/2 Teaspoon (Optional) 4. Hi, Thank you for the recipe. It is almost strawberry season here and after scouring my spice cupboard I was successful in finding my black sesame seeds. My question is about the technique. Should the seeds be ground? If so, do you use a electric grinder or a mortar and pestle? Lastly, i prefer to soak most grains, nuts, etc. would you recommend a small soaking first?

Hi Deborah - Thank you for your kind words. As for soaking the seeds, yes! definitely soak them overnight or at least for 3-4 hrs minimum. But at the same time, don't be too fanatic about it - for e.g. if you want to have the seeds right now, enjoy them! And for tomorrow's recipe, you can soak them tonight. No big deal. I always tell people don't become a health fanatic - you will ruin the pleasure out of eating these healthy, delicious foods! hahaha..:)
