As women, our breasts symbolize our beautiful feminine energy. Read this article to learn all about breast and nipple massage and the spiritual meaning in Tantra.
As women, our breasts are a strong part of our feminine identity. In the beautiful tradition of Tantra, a woman's breasts are considered as divine and as part of her positive self-identity. This is the reason why you will see a lot of Tantric breast massage centers all over Asia - because in Tantra, a woman's breasts are considered as an expression of her heart energy.
One thing about me that I can tell you point blank is that I absolutely love and adore my body! I am grateful to my body and what it does for me day after day.
I am very proud and in awe of my beautiful, curvy breasts. I absolutely love them and they are a daily reminder of my (and my beloved grandma's) nurturing nature. They are also a beautiful reminder that I carry the essence and beauty of my beloved grandma and my (late) aunt with me - we inherit our breasts from the women in our family, those who come before us.
Spiritual Meaning of Our Breasts - Why Women's Breasts Are So Sacred
Right between our breasts is our heart center - caring and giving attention to our breasts is also a gateway to opening our heart to greater things in life.
As women, we nurture our new-born babies (and even the man in our lives) by offering them our most beautiful, precious part of the body - our breasts. The same goes when we, as little girls, receive love and nurturing from the women who raise us.
As a little girl, I always slept with my aunt or my grandma and I remember the deep sense of peace, love and safety I found every time I would sleep cuddled up inside their body and right next to their divine center - their breasts and the heart, both exuding such loving, peaceful energy.
What Chakra is Associated with Breasts?
The chakra associated with our breasts is the fourth chakra - the heart chakra that is connected directly to our breasts. Called as 'anahata' in Sanskrit and also known as the spiritual heart, this chakra is linked to our emotions of affection, love, empathy, compassion, balance, calmness, forgiveness, serenity, security and understanding.
'Anahata' means 'unstruck, unhurt and unbeaten' - in other words, with the heart in between our two breasts, it signifies our ability to mend differences and see the situations, people and events in our life with detachment, openness, love, gentleness and fairness (just like the two breasts are not attached to each other but rather on the two sides of our heart center).

How to do Breast Massage -
Whether done by you or by a partner, these are the steps to follow when doing a breast massage -
1. First, if you are the giver, then set the right ambience - Light some candles, play some light Tantric sensual music and have some clean towels to wipe off the excess oils at the end if needed.
2. Take some oil or shea butter in your palms as this is very important due to the delicate nature of breast skin and you want to avoid any friction at all costs so the first step is always to take some oil in your palms for the breast massage.
3. Start massaging the breast slowly and gently in circular motions - clockwise and going from the heart center towards the underarms and then back inside and up.
4. Gently lift and knead the breast and press it delicately with both hands. You can also do slight pinches to the breast area as this will firm and tone the breasts further.
5. Take some oils on your fingertips and make sure to apply on the nipples - gently with your thumbs or fingers on the nipples, move them outward towards the rest of the breast.
6. End the breast massage with slight yet gentle firm strokes going from the center towards the outer breast area in circular motions.
7. If you are the giver, then allow her to rest and breathe deeply. Place your hands on her heart and on her yoni for a few minutes before ending the massage and resting together.
Now, What do I Recommend You Use for the Massage?
1. Whipped Shea Butter - Whipped shea butter is excellent as it is rich in fatty acids, full of antioxidants, easily available and safe to use. Buy whipped shea butter as it is easy to use for massage as opposed to regular shea butter which can be too hard and often requires time to melt before it can be applied on the skin.
2. Organic Oils - Anoint your beautiful breasts with organic oils like coconut, olive, sesame (Ayurveda's #1 oil), avocado oil or flaxseed oil.
When is the Best Time to Do Breast Massage?
Because we all are busy women and it is easy to forget to do the breast massage, I highly recommend you make it a part of the after-bath or after-shower ritual. This is a great way to incorporate breast massage into your hectic routine and this way you won't forget.
Just like you massage cream or lotion or oils on your face and body, make sure to do the same from now on with your breasts.
What About Nipple Care?
As women, the health and well-being of our breasts matter to us and nipples are often overlooked as part of our breast care until a problem arises.
Our nipples can become painful, cracked, bleeding and sore at times due to the following reasons -
-breastfeeding (baby's teeth plus baby sucking the mother too hard or too long)
-excessive sucking or nipple foreplay during intimate times
-pregnancy or menstruation which causes hormonal changes
-too tight bra (sports bra) or other clothing which causes friction
-sweat, dirt, itchiness or redness - caused by lack of good hygiene (esp. during summer months)
-yeast infections around nipples
-too much antibiotic use
-thrush which is infection or pain that happens to breastfeeding moms
-mastitis - where the milk becomes stuck in milk ducts in breastfeeding moms
-allergic reaction (chemical, paraben filled soaps, body washes, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, artificial fragrance filled skin care items, chemicals filled lotions, etc.
Helpful Tips for Nipple Care -
While each cause requires different cures, here are some very helpful tips for nipple care -
-use nipple shields, which can help breastfeeding moms which can protect the nipples and provide a 'shield' from the newborn's teething issues.
-wear a comfortable bra that truly fits you! Most women wear wrong bras thus hurting their breasts and their shoulders. Go to a professional for measurements or you can measure it yourself in your home.
-use organic, high quality soap bars for your body and face. If you see too many ingredients or ones you do not know and seem like too many chemicals, skip it! Invest in 100% organic, safe, natural skin and body care.
-some healthy fats like olive oil, shea butter, cacao butter, coconut oil, sunflower oil and aloe vera are 100% natural, safe and effective for sore nipples.
-during intimate times, apply some edible oils like coconut oil or olive oil (before intimacy, during and after) and see if that helps you.
-ladies! speak up! don't be shy! your well-being comes first and if you need to tell your man to slow down or be more gentle with your nipples, then be it!
He is not going to know unless you speak up! So - speak up and gently inform him.
I hope these tips help you take better care of your nipples.

Who Should NOT Do Breast & Nipple Massage -
If you just had breast cancer surgery or have breast cancer or nipple issues, it is best to consult your holistic doctor before proceeding with breast massage as it may cause some lumps to open or burst or if you had surgery, it may cause stitches to tear.
Breast and nipple massage has many benefits and is a wonderful way to heal as a woman but in some cases it is best to consult with your doctor or a well-known and reputed Tantric breast massage practitioner.
