Try this refreshing strawberry lassi made with sweet and salty spices. Rich in antioxidants, probiotics & electrolytes, this is a must on a hot day! ![]() Lassi is basically just yogurt, water and sugar and then all blended together for a refreshing, cooling drink in the hot summer months of India. I love lassi but I took it slightly up the notch and made it even more healthier by adding a few more things. For one thing, dairy milk yogurt is out - it is mixed with cancer-causing hormones, artificial colors at times (yup! and that is to 'whiten' it up!) and not to mention the ethical question of animal conditions in the dairy farms, its high time we humans let the cow's baby have the cow's milk and we learn to entertain out palette with much healthier, ethical options like plant-based yogurt. Made with the healthy, non-inflammatory plant based yogurt with live probiotics and a hint of spices, this strawberry lassi might just become your go-to drink during the hot summer months. In this lassi (yogurt based drink) instead of adding water, I added little bit of almond milk but you can either add water or a plant-based milk of your choice like almond milk, oat milk (yummy! and creamy) , flax milk, hemp milk or even a little bit of rice or soy milk. Another thing I did was I added pinch of Indian black salt (kala namak) for that extra boost of electrolytes, Ceylon cinnamon for blood sugar balance and cardamom for cooling the digestion and then balanced with the warming nutmeg for flavor boost. When adding your yogurt and milk, you can do as I did - 50-50. It was delicious! Ingredients (About 1 serving of 10 oz. glass) - 1. Plant-based yogurt of your choice (I chose almond milk yogurt) - 5 oz. 2. Organic strawberries - 4-5 big ones 3. Plant-based milk of your choice (I added almond milk) - 5 oz. Spices (Just a Pinch) - 1. Cardamom powder 2. Nutmeg 3. Ceylon cinnamon powder 4. Indian Black Salt or Sea Salt - Just a pinch 5. Sweetener - Not needed but if so, you can add coconut or brown sugar, stevia, monk sugar or jaggery Simple steps - 1. Add everything in the blender, blend well and enjoy! This is it! Monk fruit extract is my go-to sweetener thanks to its low glycemic index. Love this recipe’s spices!
