Tadka is a kind of tempering used to make lentils/beans/curries more tasty and healthy. It's an Ayurvedic concept - one that enhances digestion as well as body's healing capacity due to the influence of savory seeds, garlic, spices and herbs in it. The oil in the tadka is used by the body to transfer spices into the cells and use the spices for their healing properties. What are the benefits of my tadka? Why did I 'design' this? Read on... Mustard & Cumin Seeds - Digestives as well as nutrient dense Cilantro - Cancer fighting herb + blood cleanser + flushes heavy metals out of the body Tomatoes - Cancer fighter (esp. prostate cancer) + good for skin Garlic & Green Chilies - Cancer fighters + digestives + anti-inflammatory + anti-bacterial + anti-viral Turmeric - Cancer fighting spice + anti-inflammatory Cayenne - Cancer fighting spice + blood cleansing + heart healthy! Black Seeds - Powerful cancer inhibitors as well as great for cancer and inflammation prevention. Asafoetida - An excellent spice for digestion and healing of the gut. Ingredients for Tadka (Tempering) - 1. Organic, Unrefined coconut oil - 4 to 6 tablespoons 2. Mustard seeds - 1 Teaspoon 3. Cumin seeds - 3-4 Tablespoons 4. Black seeds - 1 Tablespoon 5. Asafoetida (hing) - Pinch's worth 6. Organic tomatoes 7. Garlic (1 or 2 whole garlic -the more, the better!) 8. Green chilies - 4 9. 1 whole bunch organic cilantro/coriander 10. Turmeric, cayenne, sea salt (add less first, you can adjust later - so 1/3 teaspoon each) Ingredients for Lentils - 1. Organic red lentils (Masoor Dal) - about 1.5 cup here, soaked overnight 2. 6-7 Bay leaves 3. Turmeric - 1 Teaspoon 4. Water - just enough to cover little bit over the lentils Simple steps - Watch the video/pics for step-by-step recipe and exact measurements. NOTE - Turmeric & mustard seeds - if added too much, can make food slightly bitter. So add less first. Do enjoy with family/friends as well as give some to your dogs. Very healthy for them..:) How To Pair? - Pair this with my ONION RICE or TOMATO RICE; it will go great with it! Or you can pair with some quinoa or gluten-free tortilla.
