Carom seeds tea, also known as ajwain water in India, is an age-old Ayurvedic remedy used for optimum digestion, weight loss & many more benefits. Learn all in article. In all my recipes, I like to use LOT of different savory seeds and that is because of their immense benefits - from enhancing taste to adding aroma to their nutrient power and their healing properties, all we can say is that's a mighty lot of benefits for some tiny seeds. Many seeds like cumin seeds and carom seeds add digestive power to our food - a critical component as the modern day lifestyle habits wreck havoc on digestive health and from there, we start seeing the rise of more health issues. Epidemics are evident - from obesity to cancer to digestive disorders like ibs/ibd but irrespective of what we call the disease, we know that all ailments start in the gut - that is, the digestive tract.
So, in this article, let's talk about the benefits of carom seeds and how you can make easily incorporate them into your diet right away! In Ayurveda, carom seeds are revered for their benefits and highly recommended. They are a regular part of Indian cuisine and most Indians also drink the 'ajwain tea' as part of daily health regimen. They are also revered in European cuisine esp. the German cuisine, where it is believed that food is more digestible with carom seeds and that carom seeds are the remedy for healthy, happier digestion. Caraway seeds & caraway water (ajwain water) benefits - Carom seeds are so rich in nutrients - Carom seeds contain zinc, copper, manganese, phosphorus, calcium, iron, vitamin C, and most of all, magnesium! They also provide protein, dietary fiber, active enzymes and are low in saturated fats. Carom seeds water (ajwain water) helps digestive issues - Carom seeds water is known to help in bloating, gastritis, ibs/ibd symptoms, bloating, indigestion, leaky gut, inflammation, and even stomach ache. Carom seeds help in relieving gas due to their carminative properties and therefore, are great for those who have gas and bloating issues. They also help with nausea, gas, acidity during and after pregnancy and this is why the caraway tea is taken by pregnant women in India. Carom seeds are anti-bacterial/anti-microbial - One powerful way carom seeds help the body become strong is through their anti-microbial properties. This helps in immunity and also in keeping the gut safe from toxins and parasites. Carom seeds for increasing gastric juices - Carom seeds tea is taken in the morning and for good reason - it set the digestion in motion and helps increase the production of gastric juices in the digestive tract. This intestinal mucus is needed by all of us but especially people who have ibs/ibd type of conditions. Carom seeds for natural probiotics! - Don't ever buy those fake bottled expensive probiotics ever again when you have carom seeds! Carom seeds function as natural probiotics and helps in increasing as well as rebuilding the intestinal flora. Helps beautify the skin & hair - Because drinking the carom seeds water will help you eliminate toxins while strengthening digestion, the result is beautiful skin and a relief from conditions like acne, dryness, psoriasis, eczema, etc. You can also apply carom seeds water directly on your skin or scalp and make a face pack with it mixed with pinch of turmeric. Helps with weight loss - Because carom seeds water helps in detoxifying the body and in speeding up the metabolism, they aid in weight loss. This is because they help in food getting digested better and if food is digested better, then elimination also becomes effective and optimum. Helps lactating & pregnant women - Carom seeds water (ajwain pani) is used during pregnancy to provide relief from digestive upsets and nausea. Carom seeds are also an excellent galactagogue, as they also helps in increasing breast milk supply and therefore are given to women in India after child birth. Carom seeds water (ajwain pani) also helps in cleaning the uterus after pregnancy and this is another reason why it is diligently given to women in India. Carom seeds for heartburn - Carom seeds are great for heart burn due to the thymol and niacin present in them. The seeds help with blood circulation, thus helping in keeping the heart healthy. Carom seeds for piles - Yep. Carom seeds are so beneficial that they can help those who have piles problem. This remedy is used a lot in India when one is experiencing piles. Adding these seeds to recipes as well as drinking the tea in the morning and throughout the day will help with piles. Carom seeds help with painful, irregular periods or cramps or excessive bleeding - The ajwain tea, as called in India, is taken in the morning and then again throughout the day by young and older females alike for treating symptoms related to periods like pain, cramps, excessive bleeding, or irregularities. Carom seeds for headaches, migraines and asthma - Carom seeds have been used in India as well as in Germany for treating headache, migraines and in relieving conditions related to the lungs such as asthma and bronchitis. They are considered as 'lung tonic' in Ayurveda. Recipe for Carom Seeds Tea (ajwain pani) - 1. 2 big spoonful's of organic carom seeds (ajwain) 2. 1 cup of water Bring the water to boil and then add the seeds. Try to get organic seeds to avoid harmful pesticides. Let it continue boiling for 2-3 mins more. Close the stove off and cover with lid. Once the water has cooled down, you can then take it. You can add more carom seeds and more water if you want to drink it through out the day. It's that simple! But make note that you should either drink this warm or at room temperature - NEVER cold and that is because it loses its stimulant properties and thus the benefits for which you are taking it for are lost too. Another point to note is that for more benefits, DON'T throw the seeds away - chew on them! Eat them and let them go to the digestive tract and nurture it even more back to health! I highly advice that you do not waste the precious seeds - drink them up or even better, chew them along and let them give more benefits to your body. You can also use the seeds for making this tea 2-3 times more - therefore, don't throw them and waste them. Use them again and again, and at the end, eat them. Best time to take? This recipe is taken on an empty stomach in the morning - this stimulates your digestion and helps in releasing digestive juices. Also, make sure you take it when the your carom seeds tea (ajwain pani) is slightly warm as that is when it is most beneficial. Do NOT put it in fridge and then drink it - no, for carom seeds to help with digestion and weight loss, they must be taken in warm or room temperature. Make sure to keep minimum of 1-hr gap between your carom tea and breakfast. I have excess weight. Any tips? If your intention is to lose weight, then you can make a lot in the morning and sip it throughout the day. Start with taking a full glass on an empty stomach in the morning and then 60 mins before your meals. Remember, consistency is the key to results - doing this everyday will get you to optimum digestion and healthy weight. If you work, then you can take your cumin water in a steel or copper flask and drink it throughout your work hours. Great! What more can I add for more benefits? You can add some cumin seeds (also read my article on Cumin Seeds Water benefits - posted below), fennel seeds, ginger, cardamom powder and coriander seeds. All these will help you even more in digestion and in healing your gut issues. When the water has cooled down, you can add some fresh organic lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to enhance the health properties of this wonderful drink. What about carom seeds oil and how to use it? You can buy the essential oil of carom seeds and apply directly on your abdomen for digestive issues. Dilute it with some carrier oil like castor oil, coconut oil, mustard oil, sesame oil, olive oil, etc and then apply it. Castor oil is the most beneficial for the abdomen so I highly suggest using 1 teaspoon (you don't need much - just little bit each time will do) of carom seeds oil to 3 tablespoon of castor oil. The beauty of this type of remedy is that it can be even applied on babies and children for relieving colic issues and upset tummies. It is in fact used a lot for newborn babies in India. This is it! So simple yet so powerful! Start with this remedy right away and reap the benefits. Another small, do-able change for you but one that will yield huge benefits to your health and well-being...:) Help Your Loved Ones! - Share! Share! Share! Post it on your FB page! Hi Ashok - Yes! You can definitely consume ajwain tea as it heals the digestive tract and in fact is used to heal conditions like ibs/ibs, etc. This is the main reason why ajwain seeds are so respected in Ayurveda. You might have also noticed that in Indian recipes like Kadi Pakora, Pakorey, Paratha, etc...ajwain seeds are added. Why? That is because Ayurveda is our food + science culture - Ajwain helps with eating fried/heavy foods and helps in digesting the foods easily withOUT the bloating, gas, etc.Sso, yes, you can confidently start your morning routine of ajwain tea right away and it will help you a lot. DO NOT throw away the seeds from the tea - drink them up OR you can make the powder and then make your tea and then take it warm. As for aso positive, all I can say is all these Nature's gifts like ajwain are helpful to the body - ajwain is anti-bacterial and anti-viral and so on....so yes, it will definitely help you heal fast.
