Cumin seeds tea is an age-old remedy used in India for optimum digestion, weight loss & many benefits. In this article, learn the recipe, when to take for best results, etc.
In all my recipes, you will notice I use LOT of cumin seeds and that is because I have always known of their benefits. They add digestive power and nutrients to our food. Cumin seeds are an excellent digestive but their benefits go much more than that - they are a rich source of nutrients and can offer lot of help for modern day epidemics like obesity, cancer, diabetes, fatigue, indigestion, etc.
So, in this article, let's talk about their benefits and how you can make this cumin water and start on it right away!
Cumin seeds & cumin water benefits -
Cumin seeds are so rich in nutrients - Cumin seeds contain calcium, phosphorous, potassium, iron, manganese, vitamin A & C, B vitamins and most of all, magnesium! They also provide protein, dietary fiber, vitamin E and healthy fats (monounsaturated fats).
Cumin seeds water (jeera water) helps digestive issues - Cumin seeds water is known to help in bloating, ibs/ibd symptoms, indigestion, leaky gut, inflammation, etc. This is because cumin seeds water helps in stimulating the digestive juices and therefore, helps in digesting the nutrients and the fat from our food. It also helps with nausea, gas, acidity and this is why it is taken before meals. Cumin seeds also help increase bile from the liver - thus helping digest fats and nutrients even better.
Helps in blood pressure and hydration - Because the cumin water contains potassium, it helps balance the blood pressure and keeps good electrolyte balance in the body. They also help the kidneys flush out the toxic waste more effectively and as a result, you might notice you have to pee a lot more after taking this remedy.
Helps with anemia, fatigue and hair health - Cumin seeds are rich in iron so much so that just 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds provides almost 20% of daily iron! This is why cumin water is also great for menstruating females as well as just anyone who wants immunity and healthy blood. Iron is responsible for our energy as well as maintaining good hair health. It is also responsible for immunity so drink up some cumin seeds water everyday to keep your iron supply in check.
Helps beautify the skin - Because drinking this cumin seeds water will help you eliminate toxins, the result is beautiful skin and a relief from conditions like acne, dryness, psoriasis, eczema, etc. Yes! Lot of people take cumin seeds water in India for such skin conditions and they always have a positive outcome. It's a very tried-and-tested remedy in Indian culture. You can also apply cumin seeds water directly on your skin or make a face pack with it mixed with pinch of turmeric.
Helps with diabetes - Those suffering from diabetes will find GREAT help in cumin seeds water. This is because cumin seeds inhibit or reduce advanced glycation end products (AGEs). 1. 2-4 big spoonfuls of organic cumin seeds
2. 4-5 cups of water
Bring the water to boil and then add cumin seeds. Try to get organic cumin seeds to avoid harmful pesticides.
Let it continue boiling for 2-3 mins more. Close the stove off and cover with lid. Once the water has cooled down, you can then take it. You can add more cumin seeds and more water if you want to drink it through out the day. It's that simple!
Best time to take?
This recipe is taken on an empty stomach in the morning. Also, make sure you take it when the your cumin water is slightly warm as that is when it is most beneficial. Do NOT put it in fridge and then drink it - no, for cumin seeds to help with digestion and weight loss, they must be taken in warm or room temperature recipes like this one. Make sure to keep minimum of 30 minutes gap between your cumin water and breakfast. 45 minutes to 1 hour is even better!
I have excess weight. Any tips?
If your intention is to lose weight, then you can make a lot in the morning and sip it throughout the day. Start with taking a full glass on an empty stomach in the morning and then 45 mins before your meals. Remember, consistency is the key to results - doing this everyday will get you to optimum digestion and healthy weight. If you work, then you can take your cumin water in a steel or copper flask and drink it throughout your work hours.
I am ready! What more can I add for more benefits?
You can add some fennel seeds, coriander seeds and even some caraway seeds. All these will help you even more in digestion and in healing your gut issues. When the water has cooled down, you can add some fresh organic lemon juice to enhance the health properties of this wonderful drink.
