These are THE habits you need if you want to prevent cancer or even heal it. These are easy, quick habits that will bring your mind & body in balance & harmony. To achieve health, there are some habits you will have to discipline yourself with. It is not that you do it one day and then you forget about it for another month or so - until you get sick or someone mentioned it in conversation. Nope. It doesn't work that way. I am going to list a practical guide, as always, that is solution focused and result oriented. Should you choose to follow this advice, you shall see the results. Of coarse, following these habits and then late night drive-thru or diners each day won't match. But my hope is that, these habits will be enough to not just bring you health and healing for your body but also to align you with better decision-making from now on. OK. So, let's start. TOP 10 HABITS TO START FOR HEALTH & CANCER PREVENTION Habit #1 - Taking Ginger-Garlic Paste Everyday! If you have been part of The Garden Recipe community for sometime, you should know I was going to mention this...first. No other recipe/food deserves the honor either, but this one. Both ginger and garlic are excellent as anti-cancer prevention as well as healing. If our health is in our gut, then know that both of these are an excellent digestive. Ginger and garlic have been used since ancient times in healing digestive upsets. Garlic helps to kill bad bacteria/viruses in our gut whereas ginger helps in digesting food & preventing/healing digestive upsets like nausea, vomiting, etc. Garlic is rich in sulfur compounds and this is why it is helpful in inflammation. As for ginger, it is high in gingerol, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. End result of taking these two? Lower or beat the inflammation and you have just found a cure for everything! including cancer. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #2 - Taking Turmeric Milk w/Spices If you want to prevent diseases, you must focus on your immunity first and foremost. Turmeric is great for immunity and that is why it is so revered as an anti-cancer spice. It has been shown that cucurmin, a substance in turmeric, can kill cancer cells. So, an easy, do-able way to take turmeric everyday? Turmeric milk! It is an age-old Ayurvedic recipe given when someone has fever, cold, cough, pains, or recovering from surgery or accidents. In my recipe, some more highly beneficial spices have been added to aid in digestion (cardamom), cinnamon for balancing sugar and taste, black pepper for better turmeric absorption and you can also add ginger. Let this be your new immune-boosting, anti-cancer drink to start the new year right. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #3 - Take Coconut Oil Everyday A study published in the journal Pharmaceutical Biology showed that virgin coconut oil has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. This is because of its high lauric acid content and this is why coconut oil helps reduce inflammation – which means a friend for healthy joints and anti-cancer prevention. We need healthy fats for our brain health (cognitive health), for our skin/hair/nails, for energy metabolism and healthy weight. If you don't eat healthy fats, then your body stores whatever it can - thus leading to weight gain. This weight gain is all fat stored with toxic waste - yes, that's correct. This is lethal to one's well-being. What's the solution? Providing body with healthy fats daily so the body knows it need not fear - it can flush out unhealthy fats instead of storing them. Makes sense now? So, start taking a spoonful or two of coconut oil everyday. Need recipes? The tangy, sour like flavor of fermented foods is due to the presence of lactic acid that results from the process. Our digestive system is like a mini ecosystem or garden. If you provide it with colorful, fiber rich nutrients, then it will work on your behalf and deliver great health to you. But if you don't and you stick with junk food diet, then that will deplete your good bacteria and pile up more toxins in your gut and rest of the body (leaky gut). This is where fermented foods come in handy due to their many benefits - they balance the microbiome in our gut and increase the population of good bacteria since they contain the live, probiotics organisms. The fiber and the colorful nutrients act as prebiotics and go on to feed the good bacteria in your digestive tract. Overall, this means healthy digestion - it is extracting the nutrients from the incoming food as well as eliminating the waste/toxins very efficiently. This is why fermented foods are important as part of preventive health care as well as if one is trying to heal cancer, etc. Where/how to get fermented foods? - You can ferment your own vegetables/pickles at home or can go to health food store & pick from the FREEZER section (NOT from the isles). Some of the common fermented foods and what they are made from, along with their country of origin:- apple cider vinegar (apples - Europe), kimchi (cabbage - Korea), sauerkraut (cabbage - China & then Germany), kombucha (black or green tea - China), kefir (milk - Caucasus Mountains), miso (soy - Japan), natto (soy - Japan), tempeh (soy - Indonesia), and pickles (ancient Mesopotamia). But of coarse, breads can be fermented too and since the history of humans, we have been eating fermented breads like sourdough (any grain flour- Europe (Switzerland)), dosa (rice - South India), injera (teff flour - Ethiopia & Eritrea), idli (rice - South India) and so on. As always, I like my readers to feel a lot better by just adding some simple tips to their daily routine. So, here are 3 helpful tips that you may not have known...until now. Helpful tip #1 - You can buy fermented coconut water these days in health food stores. It comes in many flavors & you can find it in the FREEZER isle next to kombucha and kefir. Helpful tip #2 - Did you know about fermented coconut oil? It is AMAZING for skin care. Available in health stores or amazon. Apply on your skin/hair/eyebrows and see the benefits. Helpful tip #3 - Don't know where or how to start with adding fermented foods to your diet? Start with organic, unrefined apple cider vinegar. Add apple cider vinegar at the end to your meals, after food has cooled down a bit. But, at the end, important thing is you start somewhere and start getting the benefits. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #5 - Start Cooking with Cayenne Capsaicin is the ingredient in cayenne that is credited for all its health benefits. Cayenne helps in lowering blood pressure as it is considered a blood thinner. Because it is an aid in thinning the blood, it naturally helps blood circulation, DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis), blood clots and clears the way for healthy blood flow so that nutrients can be transported in the body easily. Cayenne is so miraculous that it is the only spice known to stop heart attacks within 30 secs - yes! you read that correct. Cayenne tincture (or spice powder) mixed in bit of warm water and the person is heart attack-free within 30 secs. But what about cayenne and cancer? Cayenne has been shown to kill prostate cancer cells (read here). Cayenne has also been linked to killing breast as well as pancreatic cancer cells. At the end, we know it is highly beneficial and taking it everyday is a great preventive tool. So, add on some cayenne to your recipes as well as your drinks like hot tea or lemonade. ALL my recipes use cayenne. GMOs (genetically modified organisms) have been linked to everything from intestinal damage to cancer to autoimmune to allergies; basically any modern day disease you can name has gmo behind it. But on a more practical side, where life happens, we all need to eat food and so I am going to give you 2 steps to avoid gmos easily each time you go grocery shopping. Step 1 - Avoid gmo crops - soy, canola, corn, wheat, cotton, alfalfa, sugar beets, papayas, squash, arctic apples, and potato. Make sure you only buy these organic. Can't buy organic? Then buy from local farmers or better, grow your own produce! Step 2 - If you want to buy anything that is premade (snacks, flours, nuts/seeds, etc), then look for non-gmo verified label or buy organic. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #7 - Change Your Drinking Water Human adult body is about 60% water, so that means water we drink is very important. Unfortunately, tap water doesn't cut it anymore. It is rich in all the wrong things - fluoride, chlorine, pharmaceutical drugs, lead & aluminium (from old, corroded pipes in plumbing systems as well as municipal pipes used to transport water) and chromium and arsenic. Take the same empty plastic gallon bottle again and again - as many times as possible and refill it. Why? Because this way you get fresh reverse osmosis water and not one that has been sitting in the bottles for months - leaking plastic and what not! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #8 - Stop Using Toxic Home & Self-Care Products This is easy - conventional products use lot of toxic chemicals and known carcinogens. Buy only natural products for cleaning like vinegar, baking soda, borax, castile soap and eco-friendly laundry detergent. Apply the same rule for your self-care needs - buy fluoride free toothpaste, organic lotions/oils for moisturizing skin/hair, hand-made ethical soap bars or castile soap and non-toxic cosmetic products/shampoos. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #9 - Wrap It All Up w/Meditation, Spirituality & Sleep Our brain is responsible for all our bodily functions. It helps us in making decisions and bringing into our lives whatever our heart desires. But what happens to this poor little brain in a world too loud, overwhelmed with technology day and night and add to it, toxic food and drama filled relationships of present day world? This is where meditation and its urgent need comes in - meditation is where 'empty mind' meets our higher self, gets answers, deep relaxation and healing of past wounds; an all-in-one guide. Meditation has been credited with lowering anxiety, insomnia, blood pressure, heart rate, lower cortisol levels, and improves blood circulation. Basically, mediation opens the gateway to our inner-healing mechanism, thus allowing the body and mind to work in unison and heal our cells at the deepest levels. Spirituality is essential for preventing diseases. Why? Once you connect with your soul and the grand Universe, you will not be scared if some disease or tragedy comes your way. You will know the meaning behind it and realize that all is working in your favor. BUT spirituality is not just meditation or yoga postures! NO. Far from it. Spirituality is more about taking others - the Earth, the animals and the humanity into consideration. Supporting slaughterhouses by consuming animals is opposite of an 'spiritual act'. It is one of the lowest vibration acts one can ever do. In this day & age, to support slaughterhouses cuts no excuse! None. People write/talk about 'Lord' or 'God' and then? Chicken pasta for dinner! Really?! Recycling and reducing your wasteful habits is spirituality in action - for you are realizing that the entire Earth is more important than just your selfish needs. When you truly practice spirituality, you have better self-esteem which leads to better self-worth. This self-worth helps one in making thousand better decisions that are in line with one's well-being AND higher self. Practice spirituality - don't talk about it or make it a posture or a FB post. At the very least, don't become like one of the laughable people who swim in illusion. Which 'LORD' or 'God' ever said to eat chicken or cow or pig that has been tortured, thrown alive in burning water or machine in slaughterhouse?! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Habit #10 - Detox! from Everything Toxic - Foods/People/Habits, etc Nothing is a cure until and unless we realize the true definition of toxicity - it is one where drama, let-downs, insults, hurts pile up, thanks to the courtesy of takers in our life. Takers will take, and take..and take even more..from you, until you say enough is enough and no more! Sometimes people have dysfunctional parents who rob them of a magical childhood and a place to call 'home' - how much the child suffers only that being knows. Even as adults walking our journey in this world, one is left yearning for lost childhood and a 'normal-happy-loving-family' which never happens. This same applies to people who have had to go through divorce and lost years of a 'blissful marriage'. Toxic emotions pile up...like hatred, resentment, anger and grief. Your new mantra? Let go of toxic people from your life! Either cut the leash completely or make far distance - emotionally and mentally. Don't hold any expectation because a person who has let you down million times is NOT going to get it a millionth and one time! Let that person go. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cancer or any disease is a manifestation of deep painful emotions buried inside our cells. Eating greens everyday and still having cancer? Yes - this is because you are a 'whole-person' so whatever has happened to other parts of you will affect the 'whole' parts of you. And now, do the same with your other toxic relationships - with food and habits. Let go of soda, sugar, junk food, etc. Let go of repeated wasteful patterns you have developed over the years and let go of blaming the world for your lost dreams. You are responsible for your dreams and there is still plenty of time to make that happen.
